Sunday night tote number were 7 and 15, the winner for £80 was Dale Woolands. The winner of the Friday night quiz was Mick Gough while
Kelly Sinclair won the conundrum. The artiste on Christmas Eve will be
Kay Lewis while on Sunday Tony Ellesse will entertain. Lee Diamond will
appear on Boxing Day. It will be members only up to 8.30pm on Christmas
Eve and New Years Eve.
Kids
Christmas party
The
ladies section of Brierley Social club held a kids Christmas disco
recently. Member's children were visited by Father Christmas and each
received £5 and a selection box. Prize-winners were Michelle Beavers,
Luke Molics, Richard Gomersall, Ryan Stagg, Mary Clarke, Cheryl Woolands,
Jessica Sinclair and Joanne Lomas. The ladies section would like to
thank Stay Warm fuels for sponsoring the event.

Monday the choir from the Methodist Church were joined by friends who
toured the village singing carols.

Grange
House
Members
of the Monday, Thursday and Friday night social evenings, joined
together last Friday for their Christmas Party in Grange House. Every
member received a gift and Sue Pearson, on behalf of the organisers,
would like to thank Brierley General store, the post office and New
Impressions hairdressers for their donations. The winner of the Thursday
night raffle was Herbert Vamplew.
School
Father
Colin held a Christingle service in the school on Monday while a group
of pupils visited the Lyceum theatre in the evening to see the Pantomime
Peter Pan.. Tuesday was the end of term service for the parents, and
today (Wednesday), the juniors will hold their Christmas party while the
infants will hold theirs on Thursday. The school will break up on Friday
22 December for the Christmas holidays and return on the 8 January20001.
Special
Needs Party
Terry
Haynes and other members of the St John Ambulance Brigade will
entertain 17 Special residents from Brierley Grimethorpe, Shafton and
Cudworth on Saturday afternoon in the Three Horse Shoes. The event will
start at 12.30 pm until 3.30pm, and will include a disco and
refreshments. Father Christmas will visit at 2pm with gifts.

Millennium
Brierley
Town Council will hold a millennium event on New Years Eve in the
grounds of Willowgarth High School. It will start at 6.30 with a short
Ecumenical service and then the lighting of the beacon. Seasonal
refreshments will be served before the fireworks are lit at 7pm. The
fireworks will be totally Ariel and there will be 150 bursts in the
night sky. The beacon is part of a national chain to end the Millennium
Festival year, and the council is hoping foe a large attendance before
people moves on to their New Year celebrations.
Methodist
Church
The
Rev P O Allen will take the Christmas Eve service at 10.15am. There will
be no evening service. There will be a Christmas day family service in
the church at 10.30am taken by Revs. Leslie and Gill Newton. Mr and Mrs
Firth will present this week's flowers. No midweek events will take
place until after the New Year.
Coppins
Residents
from the Coppins residential home were escorted to Brierley Social club
on Sunday where they enjoyed their Christmas party. Ricky Storme and
Fearon Middleton School of theatre dance, with ages ranging from 4 to 9
years old entertained them. The residents also enjoyed a game of bingo.
Opening
hours
The
Doctors surgery on Church Drive will be closed from December 23 to
December 26 and re-open on December 27. The post office will close on
Saturday 24 December at 1.30 and reopen on Wednesday 27 December as
normal.
Tara
AGM
At
the Hillside Tara AGM held recently the following officials were
elected. Chairman Hazel Devonport, Treasurer PAT Goddard and Secretary
Audrey Marsh. Committee members elected were, Michelle King, Tracy
Lucas, Val Sheard, Josie Peace and Betty Ogley. Joan Gaines head of the
Federation of Resident associations called for the residents of the
estate to give their full support to the volunteers who, she says, act
as a voice for the people on the Hillside estate, and they also, she
added, form a very important link between the residents, the housing
officers and other important bodies.
Pool
In
the Tuesday night Sam Smiths league Brierley Social club lost 4-3 at
home and 5-2 away to the Red Rum A team. Kevin Elvidge, Adrian Sheard
and Joe Minnock winning in the home game while Jeff Watson and Mick Hurd
won for Brierley in the away game. In the Barnsley Tuesday night league
the Three Horse Shoes ladies team beat the Coach and Horses 3-2 at Home
Angela Loring, Joan Skeet and Lisa Ifam were the winning players. In a
recent 1st round knockout match they also won 3-2 at home.
The winning players were Lisa Ifam, Jenny Kirk and Joan Skeet.
