Baipip exhibition

The date for the Baipip exhibition which was to be held on the 13 December in Brierley Social club, as been changed to Wednesday 20 December by request of the elderly residents in the village who will be attending Rod Phillips Christmas party at Cudworth Social club on the original date. The arrangements will be the same for any elderly or disabled residents of the village requiring transport to the event.

 

Pool

The Three Horse Shoes played the Singing Man at home in the Monday night league and drew 3-3, Shaun Hudson and Tony Whitelam winning for the home team. Brierley Social Club were at home to Cudworth Industrial club in the Tuesday night league and won 9-0. The individual winners were, John Clarke, Adrian Sheard, Mick Hurd, Joe Minnock, Kevin Elvidge and Jason Ives. Jeff Watson and David Kirk won the  doubles.

 

Beetle Drive

A beetle drive will be held in the Methodist Church next Wednesday at 6pm. The event, which will be organised by the Brierley Boys Brigade support group, will include a raffle and prizes, refreshments will also be provided. Entrance is £2 for adults and £1 for children and members of the Boys Brigade.

 

Coppins

Residents of the Coppins residential home will enjoy a social evening in Brierley Social club tonight (Wednesday).

 

Century Club

Winner of £50 in the Brierley Labour Party New Century Club draw for November was Karen Dyson with winning number five.

 

Friends of Kenya

Forthcoming events and meetings.

Christmas Party.

Grimethorpe & District Brass Band will entertain the residents of Grange House at this years Christmas party on Tuesday 5 December, there will also be a Christmas coffee morning, date and time to be arranged.

Christmas Fayre

Coppins residential home will hold a Christmas Fayre on 13 December at 2pm. Entrance is free and everyone is welcome.

Brierley Village Partnership

Will hold a progress meeting at Brierley Hall on the 19 December.

London Trip

Mr West, a teacher at Willowgarth High School took a number of years 9 and 10 pupils on a tour of the Palace of Westminster recently where they met the local MP Jeff Ennis.

 

Party

The ladies section of Brierley Social club will hold a children's Christmas party on Saturday 16 December.

 

Appeal

Mrs Dorothy Francis a retired nurse of Clifton Gardens and Mr Pritchard of Church Street both of Brierley launched an appeal this week. The appeal is for donations from residents of the village, to buy an ECG Heart monitoring machine for the Church Drive surgery. With the machine, tests could be carried out in the surgery at Brierley instead of the patient having to travel to the hospital in Barnsley. It would save the Doctor vital time in diagnosing patients with heart conditions. The machine would cost in the region of £2000 and within 6 hours of the appeal being launched, £800 was pledged which included a private donation of £500. The adult organiser of the Brierley Lifestyle project Judith Green pledged £200 from the £365 raised through the efforts of the magnificent five Chloe Green, Romy Poole, Christy Riggot, Vicky Pearson and Lindsey McGrath who have raised funds throughout the summer with car boot sales. Hazel Devonport, Betty Ogley and Pat Goddard also came forward with a pledge of £100 from Hillside Tara. Social Club

Leslie Stagg won both the conundrum and the quiz last Friday night in Brierley Social club. Davina McLeod won the Sunday night tote for £80, the winning numbers were 1 and 31. There will be star cabaret in the club this Sunday night.

 

Methodist Church

Mr Edwin Hambleton will take the Sunday morning service at 10.15am, Mrs Elizabeth Hambleton will be the organist. The Rev D Hinchcliffe will take the evening service at 6pm. The ladies will hold a recreation evening in the church on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Autumn Fayre

At the Autumn Fayre held in Grange House recently, £137 was raised which will help towards the resident's Christmas party. The winners of the raffle were First Prize Mrs Cookman, second Mrs Milburn, third Mrs Sheridan, fourth Diane McQueen and fifth prize Mr Sheridan. Name the doll was won by Mrs Hardwick, guess the weight of the cake winner was Mrs B Haigh and Mrs B Ramsden won the sweets in the jar. The winners of the social evening raffles were, Monday Mrs Foster, Thursday Doris Pugh and Friday Mrs Evans. Grimethorpe and District Brass Band will entertain at the Christmas party that will be held on Tuesday 5 December from 5.30pm till 9pm.

 

Brierley School

Pupils from the Primary school enjoyed an unexpected two days off due to the water in the gas mains which left parts of Brierley with no heating or cooking facilities from Thursday night. The school was back to normal on Tuesday. Governor in school next Monday will be Father Colin White from 9.45 -10.15am.

 

Donations

The Special care baby unit at Barnsley General Hospital will be £200 better of this week with further donations to the Brierley Town Council Mayor Chris Sykes's fund. Chris received the donations of £100 each from RJB Mining and the local MP Jeff Ennis. The total amount raised for the unit so far in his year of office totals £1415.
