Brierley Social Club

Audition Night. Tonight (Wednesday) sees four new acts auditioning at the club, there will also be a top line artist on stage. The auditions are held on the last Wednesday in every month and both members and non members are welcome. Entrance is free. Tote - Winning tote numbers on Sunday night for £80 were 01 and 18, the winner was Rosy Conroy. Artist – The artist appearing this Sunday is Tony Lord. Quiz – The winner of the Friday night quiz and the conundrum was Chris Sykes. Ladies Section - Disco - The ladies section will hold a Halloween disco and a witches and warlocks fancy dress competition on Saturday afternoon for children under 16 who must be accompanied by an adult . Members children free, non-members children 50p.

 

Three Horse Shoes Pool

The Three Horse Shoes pool team played away to Cudworth Social club in the Monday night league and  lost 4-2.

 

Coppins Residential Home

 Pat Homer the new manager at the Coppins Residential home will escort eleven residents to the Brierley Social Club tonight (Wednesday ) for a social evening. The party will be entertained by four acts and enjoy a game of bingo. Pie and pea supper. There will be a pie and pea supper at the home with fireworks, toffee apples, raffle, jacket potatoes and spare ribs on Friday the 3 November. Entrance is £1-50 which will include pie and peas and everyone is welcome.

 

Photograph/Information request

Can you help? Brierley and Its People in Photographs have received a request for information on Brierley Juniors FC under 18s who played between 1948/50. Nine of the players remembered were R Harpham, R Smillie, J Henstock, ? Burton, B Ryalls, G Orange, R Gaskell, H Whiteman and H Craig. The organisers at the time were Mr Burton and Mr Woodward. Any photographs, information or newspaper cuttings (which will be returned) would be appreciated.

Annual Bonfire

 The Town Council annual Bonfire will be held in Brierley welfare park on Saturday 4 November. The fire will be lit at 6-30 by the Town Council Mayor Councillor Chris Sykes. The fireworks will start at 7-00 pm and there will be pie and peas on sale. Alcohol will be banned from the event.

 

Book Published

 Local writer and Methodist preacher Elizabeth Deighton has had her novel 'The Island of the Good' published by Wyvern Books.

 

Garden and Allotment Awards

The annual presentation of the Brierley Town Council Garden and allotment awards will be held in Brierley Social club on Tuesday night 31 October. Town Council Mayor Councillor Chris Sykes will present the awards.

 

Methodist Church

 The Reverend A Brown will speak at the Woman's fellowship this afternoon (Wednesday) at 2-15. Next Sunday morning at 10-15 am the service will be taken by Mrs R Smith, while in the evening at 6 pm, there will be songs of praise. Mr and Mrs T Horsefall will donate this weeks flower and last weeks offertory was £160-11p. The church now has a web site, and the editor, local historian Richard Watson wishes it to become a living site and would welcome contributions under the heading 'What we want the world to know about our church'. St Pauls Church raffle

 All the prizes in the Harvest raffle have been claimed.

 

Grange House

Residents of Grange House will enjoy a Halloween pea and pie supper on Tuesday night. The winners of the social evening raffles were, Monday Mrs Gash, Thursday Mrs Hardwick and Friday Mrs Dinsdale.
