Quiz Night

Paul Vodden was the winner of the quiz ' How well do you know Brierley?', which was held in the Three Horse Shoes to launch the Brierley Historic Photographic Society. Tracy Lucas won the meal for two and a bottle of wine. Mick Pointer won the general knowledge quiz. The raffle raised £46 for the Society's funds and 7 new members enrolled.

 

Methodist Church

Miss J Crossley will take the Sunday morning service at 10.15am while Mrs Hambleton will be organist. Mr F Bolton will take the evening service at 6pm.. Mr and Mrs A Holling will provide this weeks flowers. The Girls Brigade will meet on Monday under the leadership of Mrs Janet Baxendale.

 

Women's Fellowship

The speaker at the meeting of the Women's Fellowship today (Wednesday) will be Mr K Mooney. Margaret Watson will be pianist.

 

Hair Shave

Ian Gomersall will have his hair shaved for charity at the Methodist Church garden party this Saturday. Former Brierley resident Bill Baxendale will open the event at 3pm. Everyone welcome

 

St Paul's

Father John Baskerville will conduct the Eucharist service this Sunday morning at 9am. Hilary Cooke will read the lesson. South Hiendley Brass Band will entertain at the Strawberry tea which will be held on Sunday 15 July at 2pm till 4pm. There will also be a selection of old Brierley photographs on display from the Brierley Historic Photographic Society. Tickets are £1.50 and will include strawberries and cream

 

Donation

Brierley Historic Photographic Society received a donation of £100 from the Town Council to help the Society with its launch. A recent raffle, which was drawn in the post office, raised £235. Winning numbers were; Orange 26 and 351. Buff 102, 331 and 21. Pink 481and Blue 486. All the prizes have been claimed. The Secretary of the society will be available in the Hillside Tara offices on Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am till noon until a permanent base is secured in Brierley Hall

Pop in club

There will be a pop in club at the Methodist Church Hall on Thursday from 9.15am till 11.15am. Everyone is welcome to pop in for a chat and a cup of tea/coffee

 

Clairvoyance Special

There will be clairvoyance special at the Spiritualist church on Wednesday at 7pm. Shaun Roper will be the guest speaker and entrance is £1.50. Pay on the door

 

Social Club

Carol McCauley won the Friday night quiz and Joanne Cessford won the conundrum. On Saturday T Clarke and M Evans won a gallon of beer each. The Sunday afternoon quiz was won by Carol McCauley while Pete Rowney and Steve Moment won a gallon each. The Sunday night tote winner for £80 was Steve Bowen with numbers 12 and 29. In the raffle Dennis won a fruit hamper on Friday while Chris Sykes won a meat hamper on Sunday

 

Spiritualists

There will be healing in the sanctuary on Friday at 6pm till 6.45 followed by a service led by Ann Westwood from South Elmsall at 7pm. On Sunday the guest speaker at 6pm will be Ann Stenton from Rotherham who will take the service at 6pm

 

Partnership

At a meeting of the Brierley Village Community Partnership on Thursday it was decided to organise a public consultation and to also contact the various organisations in the village with a view to setting up sub groups. Other items on the agenda included the old school building on Church Street

 

 

Playmates

On Friday 13 July at 11am the group will hold a fun day that will include a bouncy castle and various stalls at their base in Brierley Park. Everyone welcome

 

Weight Watchers

At the weekly meeting of the weight watchers that is held in the Methodist church on Mondays the members lost a total of 29.5 pounds

 

Grange House

At the Monday night social evening Violet Gash won the raffle while Kath Hardwick won Thursday's prize. Jenny Weldon won on Friday
