Methodist Church

Elizabeth Deighton will take this Sunday morning's service at 10.15. Mrs Elizabeth Hambleton will be the organist. Mr M Cawte will take the evening service at 6pm. The Rev Gill Newton conducted a night watch service on New Years Eve. Mr and Mrs F Hughes presented this week's flowers

 

Social Club.

This weeks tote which was drawn on New Years Eve for £80 was won by Shane Horrell. The numbers were 16 and 18. The Friday night quiz as won by Carol Elvidge. The killer question was not won and will be played for £15 this Friday. There will be cabaret in the club on Sunday night

 

Handicap winners

Winners of the New Years day darts handicap held in the Social club was Simon Carter, domino winners were Anna Rooney and Kurt Chaplin

 

Century Club

The winner of the Brierley Labour Party Century club draw for Christmas was Margaret Cawthorne. The prize was £100

 

Leaving Party

Their will be a leaving party on Friday Night for the Managers at the Three Horse Shoes Bill and Eve Hudson who are leaving the pub on Sunday Night

Millennium Beacon

Father Colin White and Pastor Joy Gascoigne conducted the Ecumenical service in the grounds of Willowgarth High School on News Years Eve. About 70 visitors attended the service and a firework display to celebrate the end of the millennium year followed. The Town Council Mayor councillor Chris Sykes lighted the beacon

 

Gardens Tidied

Elderly residents of Brierley who require their gardens tidying in the summer can telephone Rebecca Pritchard, Clerk to the Town Council on 01226 711219

 

Councillors Surgery

There will be a councillor's surgery in Brierley Hall on Friday from 5.30 till 6.30pm. Councillor's Sykes, Vodden and Whittaker will be in attendance

 

Free Room

Roger Butterworth of the Robin Hood is offering any of the large rooms, free of charge on a Monday night to any charitable organisations in the area

 

Grange House

Prize winners at the Grange House social evenings were Friday, George Oldroyd and Monday Mrs Howell. There was no social evening on Thursday due to bad weather

 

Coppins

The residents of the Coppins residential home enjoyed a party on New Years Eve. The manager Pat Homer welcomed a new resident recently, Mrs Betty Simpson from South Kirby
