Mrs May Beaumont Schofield

The funeral of Mrs May Beaumont Schofield of Lindley House who died in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on Friday 25 May will take place at Hooten Pagnell Church on Friday 1 June at 11.30am and will be followed by cremation at Ardsley. May was well known in the village for her role as a Conservative candidate in most of the local elections. She fought for many years for the old school on Church Street to be brought back into village use for the members of the community. She also recently chaired the newly formed Brierley Village Community Partnership

 

Social Club

Mick Gough won the Friday night quiz while Steve Bowen won a gallon of beer. The Sunday afternoon quiz winner was Mick Barker with Pete Rowney winning the gallon of beer. On Sunday night Martin Knight won the tote for £80 with numbers 15 and 19. This Sunday's artiste will be local Brierley girl Debbie Francis

 

Methodist Church

The Rev Leslie Newton will take the Sunday morning service at 10.15am while the Rev D Hinchcliffe will lead the evening service at 6pm. The organist will be Mrs Hambleton

 

Clairvoyance Special

There will be a Clairvoyance special evening that will be held in the spiritualist church on Wednesday 20 June. International medium Jean Nowell from South Elmsall will lead the service. Tickets are £1.50 and are available from the church or by telephoning Barbara Thompson on 01226 234894

 

Quiz

At the Sunday night quiz night held in the Three Horse Shoes, Paul Vodden won the £10 prize money

 

Spiritualist

There will be healing in the sanctuary on Friday night at 6pm till 6.45 followed by a service led by Paul Parker from Wakefield at 7pm. Michael Fearn from Doncaster will lead the Sunday service at 6pm

St Paul's

Father John Baskerville took the Eucharist service on Sunday while Beverly Kenworthy read the lesson. This Sunday Jean Johnson will read the lesson. Refreshments will be served afterwards and everyone is welcome. The church members are collecting bric-a-brac for the Strawberry tea to be held on 15 July

 

Coppins

There will be a cash bingo night in the Coppins residential home on Thursday 14 June at 6pm. Refreshments will be provided and everyone is welcome

 

Gardens

Brierley garden and Allotment Society will meet in the Three Horse Shoes on Sunday at 10.30am. New members would be made welcome. Contact Pat Nicholls on 01226 710888 for details

 

Baipip Appeal

Brierley and its people in photographs will be visiting the post office tomorrow (Thursday) and on Monday from 9am to 12 noon. Albums of photographs that need names putting to them will be on view and Baipip are appealing for residents to pop along to see if they can identify any of the people on the photographs. Also if any residents would like to bring along any photograph/s to loan for reproducing and adding to the archives please feel free to do so. Photographs of the Brierley Majorettes from the 70/80s have been requested

 

Grange House

Jean Ennis won the raffle at the social evening held in Grange House on Monday Norah Harrison won on Thursday and Doreen Smith claimed Friday's prize

 

Table Top Sale

A Tabletop sale will be held in the Methodist Church on Saturday 16 June at 10am till 2pm. Light refreshments will be available. To book a table telephone Mrs Watson on 01226 712094
