Spiritualist

There will be healing in the sanctuary by trained volunteers on Friday night at 6pm till 6.45 followed by an open circle at 7pm. Sunday is a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance and will be taken this week by Rae Hurley from Wakefield at 6pm. Colin Nicholson will take the Sunday service on April 7. There will also be a service of hymns, prayers and clairvoyance on Friday April 5 at 6pm taken by Kath Knaggs from Harrogate. To ease traffic congestion on Church Street visitors are asked to use the Brierley Hall car park.

 

Clean up

A successful clean up campaign organised by the Ward councillors and the Area Forum officer Kathy Allen using the community support fund, took place in most parts of Brierley last Saturday. Regina Crescent, Barnsley Road and the Hilltop estate will be cleaned up in April.

 

Table Top Sale

All the tables for the tabletop sale at the Methodist Church on Saturday April 18 between 10am and 1pm are booked. If anyone is interested in leaving their name for a reserve table telephone Margaret Watson on 01226 712094.

 

Garden & Allotment Society

The Society will hold a meeting in the Three Horse Shoes on Wednesday night at 9pm. Old and new members will be made welcome. There are still two allotments to rent off Barnsley Road. If anyone is interested in taking one up please telephone Pat Nicholls on 01226 710888 or call in at the meeting on Wednesday. They will be allotted on a first come first serve basis.

 

Football

Brierley Cubs (under 9s) played a friendly away to South Kirkby last Saturday and drew 0-0. They will play Moorthorpe Wreck away today (Saturday) meet at the ground for 9.45am. Training for the Cubs and the Tigers (under 14s) will resume on Sunday April 7 in Brierley Welfare Park. Meet at 10.30am.

 

St. Paul's Church

Hilary Cooke will read the lesson at this Sunday's Eucharist service at 9am. The Rev John Baskerville will lead the service.

 

Coppins

The staff welcomed Kathleen Martin a new resident this week. Winner of the bonus ball on Saturday was Nigel Edwards while Becky Halliday won on Wednesday.

Garden and Allotment Society; Meet the first Wednesday in every month in the Three Horse Shoes at 9pm.

Brierley Labour Party; Meet the last Sunday in every month in Brierley Social club at 10am.

Easter Bonnet Parade

There will be an Easter Bonnet Parade in the Three Horse Shoes this Easter Monday night. Judging will take place at 9pm. The event has been organised by the Special Events group under the leadership of Doreen Henstock.

 

Neighbourhood Watch

The Hillside Neighbourhood Watch have recently finished the installation of security lighting to 32 houses on the estate. The South Yorkshire Police Community Initiative programme provided the funding

 

Methodist Church

The Rev. G. Morton will take the Sunday morning family service at 10.15am while the evening service will be a joint service at Ryhill at 6pm. On Tuesday there will be a ladies recreation evening at 7.30pm.

 

THS Quiz

The winner of last Thursday night quiz was Judith Kenyon-Hill with 16 out of 20. Eric Pickering won the takings from the quiz sheet sales for guessing within three runs, the total runs scored in the first test match. The quiz runs every Thursday night starting at 8.30pm.

 

Grange House

The winner of the raffle prize at the Monday night social evening was Mrs Burton while Rita Ford won on Thursday. Friday's winner was Mrs Guest. The residents enjoyed a pie and pea supper on Tuesday.

 

Labour Party

Due to the closing of Brierley club for refurbishment Labour party meetings will be held temporarily in Brierley Hall. At the meeting on Tuesday, items on the agenda included visiting the Houses of Parliament. Mick Rooke was the £50 winner of the New Century club draw. Subscriptions are now due for 2002

 

Historic Society

The Brierley Photographic Historic Society has recently been awarded a grant of £285 from the Community Support Fund. The grant will be used towards archiving the material in the society's archives. An exhibition is also planned for later this year where 300 new photographs will be on show. Davina McLeod has recently donated a computer, scanner and printer to the society that was originally used by the Brierley Youth Challenge. The premises in Brierley Hall will be available shortly for the group to meet. If you would like to become involved email Gary.

 

Clairvoyance special

A Clairvoyant special evening with Joyce Divine will be held at the Spiritualist Church on Wed March 17 at 7pm. Tickets priced at £1.50 are available from the church.
