Brierley Cubs FC

All three teams are back in training for the new season. The under 9s train under manager Brian Haywood on Wednesday between 6 and 7pm. The under 7s train on Thursday between 5.30 and 6.30pm. Their manager is Steve Ward. At a recent tournament at Redfearns Sports ground, the under 9s reached the semi final where they lost 3-0 to Redfearns. The under 10s under the leadership of Ian Farrar also reached the semi final where they lost in a penalty shoot out. The under 7s won a game and lost a game. The under 7s will also be holding trials for the new season shortly. The under 9s and 10s will play in a tournament at Minsthorpe on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

 

Garden competition

Judging for the Brierley Town council garden competition will take place between 16 and 21 July. If you would like to enter your garden or to nominate anyone, telephone 01226 714681 or give your details to any member of the Town council.

 

Allotments

Councillor Alex Voddden is now looking after the administration of Brierley allotments and all requests to go on the waiting list or any problems to do with the allotments will be dealt with by him. Councillor Vodden can be contacted on 01226 711081

 

St Paul’s

There will be a mass on Friday at 3pm and on Sunday a mass with hymns at 9.30am. There will also be a mass on Monday at 10am. The Parish office for Baptism & Weddings are on Friday Evening at St Luke's Vicarage, Grimethorpe between 6.30pm and 7.15pm. Contact Father Peter Needham on 01226 717561.

 

Three Horse Shoes
There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday Les and Ged won the quiz and also a bottle of wine. G Fab guessed the nearest too question. On Sunday, Steve Dootson won the conundrum and the head to head was not won. It will be for £60 next week.

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place every Monday and Friday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm. Entry is £2.50.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings have now closed until September.

 

Ladies Recreation

There will be a Ladies recreation evening in the Methodist Church hall on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

 

Grange House

At the Grange house social evening on Thursday, Audrey Marsh won the raffle while Sheila Ducket won on Friday. Monday’s winner was John Hinks.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in morning at the Methodist church will take place on Thursday 26 July from 9.15 am till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds towards the new building fund.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be healing in the sanctuary on Friday from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm till 8 with an Open circle. There will be a clairvoyance service on Sunday at 6 till 7 taken by David Rawlin from Dinnington. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Methodist Church

The Rev H Bowes will take the 10.15am service on Sunday while in the afternoon at 3pm there will be a circuit service at Emmanuel.  In the morning the welcoming steward will be Joan. Elizabeth Plowman will provide this weeks flowers.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meeting takes place every Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm.  Last week the ladies enjoyed a rally in Grimethorpe.
