Boys Brigade

This weekend, junior boys will take part in figure marching; bible quiz and general knowledge while the senior boys will take part in a bible quiz. Both these events are part of the Yorkshire County Battalion competitions and will take place at Starbeck, Harrogate. Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Ladies Recreation

A ladies recreation evening takes place in the Methodist Church Hall every Tuesday night starting at 7.30.

 

St Paul’s Church 

Tomorrow (Friday) mass will be taken at 2.30pm due to the World Prayer day at St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church at Grimethorpe. On Saturday there will be Stations of the Cross at 11am.The Sunday Mass with hymns will be at 9.30am. There will also be a mass on Monday at 10am. Father Peter Needham will conduct the services. Marriage or Baptism enquires to be made to Father Peter Needham at St Luke’s Church Grimethorpe on Friday between 6.30 and 7.15pm.

 

Pop In

The next Pop in club at the Methodist Church Hall will be held on Thursday 15 March from 9.15 till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds are towards church funds.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place tonight Friday and on Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm.Entry is £2.50

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Women’s Fellowship meeting takes place every Monday in the Methodist Church Hall at 2pm. Last weeks speaker was Mrs R Marsden.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be a healing in the sanctuary tomorrow night (Friday) from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm till 8 with a service of mediumship taken by Sandy Lee from Huddersfield. Maxine Sawyer will take the Sunday evening service at 6 till 7.15pm. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Millennium Sunday league, Brierley Cubs under 9s lost 2-1 in a hard fought game away to Mosborough.  Brierley’s man of the match was Lewis Hinch and Ryan Smith scored their only goal. It was an excellent result for the under 10s coming out 1-0 winners against top of the League Dorothy Hyman’s. The lads dominated most of the game before Danny Patrick scored the winning goal. They will play away to Hoyland on Sunday. The under 7s match was cancelled and they don’t have a fixture this week.

 

Grange House

Bingo and a raffle were enjoyed at the Grange House social evenings last Monday, Thursday and Friday. The winners of the raffle were Doreen Barton, Hilda Hall and Ray Fewster.

 

Methodist Church

The Rev Terry Keen will lead a parade and family service on Sunday morning at 10.15am. Mr Edwin Hambleton will take the evening service at 6pm. The welcoming steward for the morning service will be Jean and in the evening it will be Richard. Margaret Mittell will provide this weeks flowers. There will be a Women’s World Day of Prayer at 2pm on today (Friday). There will be no Frugal Meals this year, but if anyone would like to contribute to a charity, your gift will be gratefully received please see Norma.

 

THS Quiz

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. This Sunday Ian won 6 pints for winning the general knowledge quiz while Andy guessed the conundrum correctly. Ged was in the Head to head final but did not win. It will be a rollover for £110 next week.
