Friends of St Paul's Christmas Fair

The Friends of St Paul's Brierley are holding a Christmas Fair at St Paul's Church, Brierley, on Saturday 1 December between 4 and 8pm.

    The church will house up to 20 stalls ranging from top quality gifts, cards, jewellery and toys, together with cakes, food and tombola.

     The Christmas Draw will also take place with over £500 worth of prizes, including a top prize of £300 cash! Draw Tickets are 50p each, with all proceeds going to help the restoration of the Church Tower. There will be a Free Concert at the Church, starting at 8.00pm.

     There are still a few stalls left. at a cost of £5 per stall. If you wish to have a stall, please call Paul Cunningham on (01226) 715449.

     The Friends of St Paul's Brierley is a local community group, which was set up to raise funds for the restoration of the Church Clock and Tower, and to ensure that St Paul's remains as a living focal point of the community and heritage in Brierley Village for future generations. The group have so far raised £5,000 in it's target of £30,000 needed to match the funding of English Heritage, who have offered an initial grant of £89,000 towards the total cost of £119,000 for Phase 1 of the work, which is due to begin in January 2008

Town council

Numerous activities including a triathlon in the gym at the Grimethorpe and Brierley Community and fitness centre will take place on Friday. The events will be in aid of Children in Need.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Sunday Millennium league, the under 10s beat Mosborough Juniors 4-0 at home. Scorers for Brierley were Ryan Smith and Michael Shaw who scored a hat trick.  Man of the match was Ryan Haywood.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the Sanctuary on Friday from 6pm till 6.45 followed at 7pm, with an Open circle. Eddie Wilson from Wakefield will take the service on Sunday evening starting at 6. Refreshments will be served afterwards. On Wednesday 4 December there will be a clairvoyance special and Christmas buffet. Julie Winfield will lead the service and tickets from the church are £3.50

 

St Paul’s

There will be a mass on Friday at 3pm and on Sunday a mass with hymns at 9.30am. On Monday there will be amass at 10am. Parish office for Baptism & Weddings are on Friday Evening at St Luke's Vicarage, Grimethorpe between 6.30pm and 7.15pm. Contact Father Peter Needham on 01226 717561.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday The Simon Webb fan club won the quiz and Joe won the conundrum. Mr D won the head to head. The winner of the quiz on Thursday was Emily, Harry and Sue who also won the nearest too question. The bottle of wine was won by Bry and Julie

 

Ladies Recreation

The Ladies from the Methodist Church hold a recreation evening every Tuesday at 7.30pm.

Pop In

The next Pop in morning at the Methodist church will take place on Thursday 29 November from 9.15 am till 11.15. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee and biscuits and a chat. Proceeds are towards church funds.

 

Methodist Church

The service on Sunday morning at 10.15am will be a united service at Grimethorpe. Mrs E Walker will take the evening service at 6. The welcoming steward will be Brian.  Ida will provide this weeks flower.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings take place on Wednesday night in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Social Club

There is a quiz night every Monday in the Social Club starting at 9.30pm. The winners this week were Neil and Ross Bower. Members also enjoyed refreshments. On 30 November there will be a curry and race night starting at 8pm. Names are now being taken for the Christmas handicaps.

 

Line Dancing

Line dancing will take place every Monday and Friday in the Methodist Church Hall at 7pm. Entry is £2.50.

 

Grange House

At the Grange House social evenings last week, Pam Fewster won the raffle on Monday while Audrey Marsh won on Thursday. Margaret Burton won on Friday.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The Fellowship meeting takes place on a Monday at 2pm at the Methodist Church. The speaker last week was Mr Edwin Hambleton.
