Brierley Playmates

A recent raffle in Brierley Post Office raised £80 which will be used towards having a telephone line installed in the Playmates headquarters in Brierley Park. The winning numbers were, green114, 85 and 81, pink 218 and blue 953 and 905. A further £200 needs to be raised for the work to commence. If anyone would like to make a donation please contact Gary on 07847 003336.

 

Grange House

The winner of the social evening raffle on Thursday was Jean Crowshaw while Liz Cooke claimed Friday’s prize. At the Easter social evening Olive was the winner of the best bonnet. The raffle winners were Audrey Marsh, Liz Cook, Ellen Cartwright, Nelly Bowering, Ray Fewster, Susan Sheridan and Elsie Brazier. The lucky ticket was won by Mrs Anne Whitehead. The event was organised by the warden Linda Millburn who would like to thank everyone who attended especially Rita Sayers for help with the Bingo. £50 was made towards the residents outing fund.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday 14 May in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates vary.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be no Healing in the sanctuary until further notice. Tonight at 7 there will be an Open till 8pm. On Sunday at 6pm there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Susan Ashton from Bradford. Refreshments will be served after each service. Pat Campbell from Sheffield will lead the service next Sunday. On 29 April at 7pm there will be a demonstration of mediumship special where visitors are asked to bring a photograph of a loved one. The demonstration will be performed by Maggie Carrington from Somerset and tickets are available from the church.

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Davina McLoud.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Thursday The Deadheads won the quiz and Roz and Neil won the nearest too question and the bottle of wine. Graham and Paul Vodden won the quiz on Sunday while Les Parry won the conundrum. The Head to head was not won and will be for £55 next week.

 

Methodist Church

Mr M Dixon will take the Sunday morning service at 10.15.  The welcoming steward will be Jean and Mrs Garbutt will present this weeks flowers. Next Sunday the morning service will be at the Emmanuel Church in Barnsley and will be taken by the Reverend S Poxon who is the President of the Methodist Church conference.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league, the players from the social club lost to Cudworth Vic. Next week they will play away at the Spencers Arms.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.
