Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club team played away to the Wilthorpe Hotel and won 6-1. The winning players for Brierley were Bernard Lucas, Kenneth Clarke, John Beasley, Andrew Westwood, Adrian Kenneth Sheard and Andrew Bryan. Next week they will play away to the Polish club.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held on 9 September in the Methodist church.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade have now broken up until September when both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Methodist Church

On Sunday there will be a united Sacrament service at 10.30am taken by the Rev S Corney at Grimethorpe. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle. The church will be closed on Sunday for the bank holiday.

Charity auction

The annual charity auction that is organised by Chris Sykes has been arranged for Saturday 10 October in Brierley Social club starting at 8pm. This year the proceeds will be for the Grimethorpe St John Ambulance who relies solely on donations. Anyone who would like to donate gifts to the auction can contact Chris on 01226 711255.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Stalk won the quiz while Andy came second. Les Parry won the conundrum. The head to head was not won and will be for £290 next week. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz while F Troop won the nearest too question. C and J won the bottle of wine. Joe Lloyd will provide the entertainment tonight starting at 9pm. On Bank Holiday Monday, there will be entertainment provided throughout the day starting with Uncle Mark who will entertain the kids from 2pm. A barbeque will also take place and there will be fun and games for all ages. True Brit will be appearing on the 25 September.

 

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Kev Elvidge who beat Chris Sykes in a tie break.

 

Grange House

At the Friday night social evening Audrey Marsh won the raffle while Elsie Brazier claimed Monday’s prize. Doreen Moorhouse won on Thursday.
