Brierley Cubs FC

All four teams will compete in a pre season friendly tournament at South Elmsall this weekend. The under 7s, 9s and under 11s will compete on Saturday morning and the under 12s on Sunday morning. The under 11s are seeking new players for their forthcoming season in the Sunday Millennium league. For further details contact their manager Brian Haywood on 07799 41088.

  

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Sharks table won the quiz while S Talk came second and won the conundrum. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £270 next week. On Thursday AKIWT won the quiz while Pat & Jim won the nearest too question. Eric’s team won the bottle of wine. There will be a darts knockout competition starting on Monday. On the 19 August there will be a charity gourmet night with tickets priced at £24.95.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Miss E Haigh. The welcoming steward will be Jean while Julie Addy will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. On Thursday there will be an open day at the church from 10.30am till 2pm and will include a bring & buy stall, cake stall and refreshments. All are welcome.

 

Boys Brigade

The boys Brigade have now broken up until September when both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meetings will continue in September. They meet in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm.

Multi sports

Brierley Town Council has arranged the following multi sports sessions in Brierley Park during August. All children are welcome to go along and enjoy themselves. The times will be 4pm till 6pm on Wednesday 19, Friday 21, Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26.

 

Bollingbroke House

Father Peter Needham will visit the home on Wednesday at 3pm.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by. Pat Canpbell from Sheffield Refreshments will be served after each service. The demonstrators for August will be Jackie Jennings from South Kirkby, Sheila Chalkley from Roystone, and Eddie Peace from Bradford. The church will be closed on Sunday 30 August for the bank holiday.

 

Pop In

There are no meetings of the Pop in club during August. Meetings will recommence  in September.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winners last week were Chris and Malc.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be in September.

 

Grange House

At the Friday night social evening Doreen Smithy won the raffle while Audrey Marsh claimed Monday’ and Thursday’s prize. The next trip organised by the warden Linda Millburn is on the 14 October to Skipton, leaving Grange House at 11am and returning at approx 4pm calling at the Wetherby Whaler at Durker for a fish and chip supper returning to Grange House at approx 8pm.
