Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a further demonstration of mediumship taken by David Sinclair from Sheffield. Refreshments will be served after each service. The demonstrator next Sunday will be Karan Rainey from South Kirkby. There will be a graphology evening which is the art of reading handwriting by Jackie Jennings on Wednesday from 7.15pm till 8.15pm.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Shy T won the quiz while Dave and Hannah came second. Shy T also won the conundrum. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £215 next week. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz while Jim, Pat and Aisla won the nearest too question. We are awesome won the bottle of wine. Their will be a female entertainer tonight starting at 9pm and on 12 August there will be a gourmet night with limited tables.

 

Town council

The next meeting of the Town council will take place on Tuesday 28 July at 6pm in the Methodist Church Hall.

 

Grange House

At the social evening on Thursday Ray Fewster won the raffle while Sue Pearson won on Friday. Audrey Marsh claimed Monday’s prize. The trip to Southport that has been arranged by Linda Millburn the warden will leave Grange house on Tuesday at 8.45am and return from Southport at 5pm.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be a family and parade service led by Edwin Hambleton. The welcoming steward will be Pearl while George Titterton will provide the flowers. The evening service at 6 will a Sacrament service and will be taken by the Reverend B Russell. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club played at home to the Black Bull from Stairfoot and won 4-3. The winning players for Brierley were Kenneth Clarke, Dale Creasey, Andy Bryan and Steve Hilton. Next week they will play away to the Wharncliffe.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Dog Show

Following on from the success of the dog show held in Grimethorpe last summer, Brierley Town council are planning to hold a similar event in Brierley Park  on 19 September. There will be 12 classes to enter in the dog show each offering rosettes and trophies. Classes will be for both pedigree and cross breed dogs and also a special class for junior handling has been scheduled. As well as the dog show there will be children’s rides and other side stalls. Local groups are invited to hold a stall to help raise funds for there causes. For further details contact any councillor or telephone Jan or Sarah on 01226 714681.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Volvo Phil.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday 12 August in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates may vary.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm.
