Brierley Cubs FC

In a tournament held at Royston the under 11s finished third.

 

Dog Show

Following on from the success of the dog show held in Grimethorpe last summer, Brierley Town council are planning to hold a similar event in Brierley Park in September. There will be 12 classes to enter in the dog show each offering rosettes and trophies. Classes will be for both pedigree and cross breed dogs and also a special class for junior handling has been scheduled. As well as the dog show there will be children’s rides and other side stalls. Local groups are invited to hold a stall to help raise funds for there causes.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall on Wednesday. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm.

 

Grange House

Audrey Marsh won the raffle at both the social evenings on Friday and Monday. Linda Millburn the warden has arranged a trip to Southport on 21 July for the residents. For further details on the trip, telephone Linda on 01226 711221.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meets in the Methodist Church every Monday at 2pm. Last week the Speaker was Deacon Janet.

 

Garden scheme

Brierley Town council are offering a community gardener scheme, to offer assistance to Brierley and Grimethorpe residents who are unable to maintain their own gardens due to poor health or age. If you know someone who would benefit from the scheme please contact Jan or Sarah on 01226 714681. The Town council will also begin its judging of residents gardens during the week commencing 13 July. Should you wish your garden to be included, contact any councillor or again telephone Jan or Sarah.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting of the WI will be on Wednesday 12 July in the Methodist Church Hall. The ladies will meet once a month but times and dates may vary.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. The winners of the quiz on Sunday were the Bar staff while Sharks Table claimed the second prize. The conundrum was won by Jo. The Head to Head was not won and will be for £170 next week. On Thursday The Dead Heads won the quiz while Eric’s team won the nearest too question. Famous Five minus One won the bottle of wine. There will be live entertainment tonight at 9pm with comedy duo Sharp Experience.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7 with an Open circle. On Sunday at 6pm till 7.15 there will be a demonstration of mediumship taken by Dinah Burke from Wath upon Dearth. Refreshments will be served after each service. There will be a clairvoyance fair open day tomorrow starting at 11am while 4pm. There will be private readings, Raike, Gemstone jewellery and much more.

 

Pool

In the Smithies Wednesday night pool league the village club played at home to the Pack Horse from Roystone and won 5-2. Winning players for Brierley were Adrian Kenneth Sheard, Craig Round, Steven Whitely, Dale Creasey and John Beasley. Next week they will play at home to the Black Bull from Stairfoot.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 9 July from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be taken by Deacon Janet Thomas. The welcoming steward will be Edwin while Ida will provide the flowers. Tomorrow there will be a talent showcase for young musicians, volunteers are required please see Edwin. There is a karate club on Monday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. There will be a bible study in the medical centre on Church Street on Thursday at 7pm. On Saturday 11 July the Church will hold its annual Garden party that will be opened by Mr and Mrs Wayne Ashton from Shafton.
