Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 10 December from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Charles Rice Sunday league, the under 11s lost 3-2 to Crofton. The scorers for Brierley were Mattie Hardman and Callum McGinn who was also man of the match. They will play Thorne Juniors on Sunday away from home kicking off at 12noon.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Callum Wallace won the quiz while the Dead Heads came second. Sam, Dave, Margaret and Sharon won the conundrum. The head to head was not won and will be for £155 next week. On Thursday the Dead Heads won the quiz, the nearest too question and a bottle of wine

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with an open circle.  There will be a demonstration of mediumship on Sunday from 6pm till 7.15pm and it will be taken by Sheila Chalkley from Royston. Tomorrow there will be a crafts and private readings day from 11am till 4pm and on Tuesday 8 December there will be a buffet and a demonstration of mediumship taken by Julie Winfield from 7 till 8pm. Sheila Chalkley from Royston will lead a candle service and demonstration of mediumship on Friday 11 December at 7pm.

 

Grange House

At the Christmas Fayre that was arranged by the warden Linda Millburn, a total of £121.50 was raised towards the residents and friends Christmas party that will take place on Tuesday 1 December at 5pm. Clarence Burton won the first prize of a food hamper in the raffle. Other prize winners were Doreen Smith a Christmas decoration and Pam Fewster who won a bottle of port. Ticket numbers white 566 and 616 have yet to be claimed. At the Thursday night social evening Audrey Marsh won the raffle while Rita Ford won on Friday. Pam Fewster claimed Monday’s prize.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm.The winner last week was Volvo Phil. The draw for the quarter finals of the Graham’s taxi pool knockout shield has taken place and is as follows, Fred v Becky, Graham H v Ada, Conny v Dale C and Johnny v Kenny. The draw for the other competitions that are sponsored by the social club committee are, Darts, Ada v Ben, Fred v Dale C, Mark v Johnny and Kenny v Connie. Dominoes, Mark v Diane, Fred v Ada, Dale C v Sheila and Conny v Becky. Snooker, S Kennedy v John B, Mark v Ada, Dale C v Paul R jnr and Kenny v Chas. The final two in the table bowls are John B v Ben.

Appeal

Sheila Beasley the manageress at Brierley Social club is appealing for any other pubs or clubs in the Barnsley area that has the facilities to play table top bowls to contact her with the view to playing friendly matches on a Tuesday night. Sheila can be contacted on 01226 716373.

 

Council surgery

Ward councillor Dorothy Higginbottom will hold a surgery at Grange House on Tuesday from 5pm till 6.

 

Charity Auction

The date has been set for the Brierley and its people in photographs annual charity auction that is held in the Three Horse Shoes every year. It will be on Monday 14 December and this year will be in aid of Brierley Cubs FC where over 60 players between the ages of 6 and 13 are involved. Already 2 match day tickets have been donated by Barnsley FC and a signed team photo from Arsenal FC. Jeff and Margaret Ennis MP have donated a House of Commons bottle of whisky that has been signed by the Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Entertainment will be provided by Stu’s disco and there will be prizes for fancy dress with this year’s theme being cowboys and Indians. There is also fun and games with last man standing and spin the wheel. The evening starts at 8pm. Methodist Church

The children’s Jam club will be at 10.30am on Sunday morning and the service at 10.15am will be a local arrangement . The welcoming steward will be Pearl Maclean. There is a karate club on Monday and Thursday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. A Bible study will take place in the medical centre on Church Drive on Thursday at 7pm. Tomorrow at 2pm there will be a fashion show and models are required, please contact Edwin Hambleton. The proceeds will be in aid of church funds. On Wednesday at 7pm, the Reverend Derek Hinchliffe will be reading and telling stories from his autobiography “Before I forget”. There will also be a pie supper and question time. On Saturday 12 December there will be a concert by Val and Geoff Littledyke and 20 of their young children. Light refreshments will be served.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The next women’s fellowship in the Methodist Church Hall will be on Monday 7 December at 2pm.

 

Town Council

The pantomime Robin Hood will be coming to the Welfare hall Grimethorpe on Sunday 13 December.  If residents of Brierley are interested, the Town clerk Jan Cooper is willing to run the Brierley Buzzer to bring people down for the show. Father Christmas will be doing his rounds of Grimethorpe and Brierley on 19 and 20 December.
