Auction

The annual charity auction that is organised by Chris Sykes has been arranged for Saturday 10 October in Brierley Social club starting at 8pm. This year the proceeds will be for the Grimethorpe St John Ambulance who relies solely on donations. Anyone who would like to donate gifts to the auction can contact Chris on 01226 711255. Ladbrokes have donated a VIP box at the world professional darts championship that will be held in December at Alexandra Palace. Chris is on his way to making a total of £20,000 raised over the last few years for local charities.

 

Bollingbroke House

Father Peter Needham will lead a service at the home on Wednesday 14 October. He visits every second Wednesday in the month.

 

Pop In

The next meeting of the Pop in club that is held at the Methodist church Hall will be on Thursday 8 October from 9.15am till 11am. Everyone is invited to pop in for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. Proceeds will be towards Church funds

 

Women’s Fellowship

The women’s fellowship meet in the Methodist Church Hall on Monday’s at 2pm.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Andy, Dave and Jo won the quiz while Alan and Maria came second. Shy T won the conundrum. The head to head was not won and will be for £75 next week. On Thursday, Not the Geeks won the quiz and the nearest too question was won by Two plus Two. Comedian and singer Jonny Martel will provide tonight’s entertainment.

 

Women’s Institute

The next meeting will take place in the Methodist Church on Wednesday 14 October.

 

Grange House

At the Friday night social evening Nellie Bowering won the raffle while Audrey Marsh claimed Monday’s prize.

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with a demonstration of mediumship that will be taken by Debbie Askew from Thurgoland. Next Friday after the Healing in the church there will be an Open circle. There will be a further demonstration of mediumship this Sunday from 6pm till 7.15pm and it will be taken by Sid Pickersgill from Wakefield. The rest of the demonstrators’ for October will be Ann Anderson from Retford and Linda Shepard from Rotherham. Next Sunday’s demonstrator has yet to be arranged.

 

Brierley Cubs

In a recent match in the Charles Rice league, the under 12s lost to Altofts 5-3. Scorers for Brierley were Kai Haddock who scored twice and Mattie Hardman. The manager gave the man of the match jointly to the goalkeeper Nathan Scarrot and Kam-Kan-Boadu. This Sunday the lads will play away to Durker Juniors kicking of at 10.30am.

            

Skipton Trip

The next trip organised by the warden Linda Millburn is on the 14 October to Skipton, leaving Grange House at 11am and returning at approx 4pm calling at the Wetherby Whaler at Durker for a fish and chip supper returning to Grange House at approx 8pm. Methodist Church

The Sunday morning service at 10.15am will be a family and parade service and will be lead by Edwin Hambleton. The welcoming steward will be Pearl and Clarice Burton will provide the flowers. There is a karate club on Monday and Thursday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. A Bible study will take place in the medical centre on Church Drive on Thursday at 7pm.   On  Wednesday at 7pm, there will be a talk by Martyn Johnson about how the the book ‘Black Diamonds’ was written and will be followed by question time & Pie Supper. Tickets are £5.

 

Village club

There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm. The winner last week was Malc and the Legends.

 

Boys Brigade

Both the Junior Boys and Company Section meetings will take place in the Methodist Church Hall. The 7 to 11 year olds meeting will take place from 6.30pm till 8pm and the older boys will meet from 7pm till 9. Edwin and Elizabeth Hambleton lead the boys.
