Bolingbroke House

The residents enjoyed festivities on Tuesday when they were entertained by Marie Dantes. Residents and their families will enjoy a Christmas dinner at the Three Horse Shoes on Tuesday at 2pm and at 4pm on Christmas Eve they will enjoy their Christmas Party. They will be entertained on Christmas morning by a violinist. The manager and staff would like to thank Jimmy King, Ruth and John Fell for donating this years Christmas tree and decorations, and also to one of the residents Gordon Revel for donating Christmas lights.

 

Three Horse Shoes

There is a quiz night at the Three Horse Shoes on a Thursday at 9.30pm and on Sunday at 8pm there is a music, conundrum and general knowledge quiz. On Sunday Shy T won the quiz while Les Parry won the conundrum. The head to head was not won and will be for £175 next week. On Thursday Odd numbers won the quiz and the nearest too question.  G Fab won a bottle of wine.

 

Charity Auction

The annual charity auction organised by Brierley and its people in photographs will be held in the Three Horse Shoes on Monday starting at 8pm. A signed Arsenal shirt is one of the items on offer and also 2 match day tickets to watch Barnsley FC. A family trip to Lego Land in Windsor has also been donated by Chris Marsden from Definitive Radio. There will also be entertainment provided by Stu’s disco and a fancy dress with a cowboy and Indians theme. This year’s auction is in aid of Brierley Cubs FC. If anyone has any items of auctionable value that they wish to donate please contact Gary on 07986 922476.

 

Spiritualist Church

There will be Healing in the church by approved healers tonight from 6 till 6.45pm followed at 7pm with Norrie Mills from Rotherham who will lead a candle service and demonstration of mediumship. After this service the church will close for the holidays and reopen on Friday 4 Jan 2010. The church would like to wish everyone a loving and peaceful Christmas and thank everyone who has supported and served it throughout 2009.

 

Town Council

Father Christmas will be doing his rounds of Grimethorpe and Brierley on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 December.

 

Grange House

Doreen Hardwick claimed the raffle prize at both the Thursday and Friday night social evenings. Audrey Marsh claimed Monday’s prize.

 

Village club

The semi final and final of the Grahams taxi pool trophy will be played on Tuesday 16 December along with the snooker, table billiards and dominoes finals that have been sponsored by the social committee. Refreshments will be available. There is a quiz night every Monday starting at 9pm.The winner last week was Volvo Phil.

 

Brierley Cubs FC

In the Charles Rice Sunday league, the under 11s drew 1-1 at home to Royston Dynamos. The goal scorer for Brierley was Ryan Haywood and the man of the match was Joseph Kan-Kam Boadu.  They will play away to Normanton on Sunday kicking off at 12noon. They will join with the other teams from Brierley next Saturday to enjoy their Christmas party in Grimethorpe WMC.

 

Methodist Church

The children’s Jam club will be at 10.30am on Sunday morning and the service at 10.15am will be taken by Mrs E Peet.. The welcoming steward will be  Eddie Hambleton and Charlie Hall will provide this weeks flowers. There is a karate club on Monday and Thursday at 7pm and the majorettes meet on Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm. A Bible study will take place in the medical centre on Church Drive on Thursday at 7pm. Tomorrow there will be a concert by Val and Geoff Littledyke and 20 young children. Light refreshments will be served.

 

Women’s Fellowship

The next women’s fellowship in the Methodist Church Hall will be on Monday 21 December at 2pm.
