St Paul's School

The photograph shows St Paul's school before the red brick extension was built to the front of the school. At this time, the school would only have one teacher who lived in the house adjacent to the school. The school was first known as Brierley Girls and infants. It officially opened in 1871, but there are records to show that there was a form of schooling before this date. I would suggest the erection of the school building was started in 1869, the same time (or possibly not long after) the church was built.
