Milefield Middle School year 4
These pupils were amongst the first pupils to
attend Milefield on its opening in 1968. The pupils in this photograph
went straight into the fourth year where they stayed for two years until
1970. The Headmaster at the time was Tom Gannon. The school took pupils
from the age of 9 to 13 from Brierley, Grimethorpe and Shafton. They
then went onto Willowgarth High school for a further two years before
leaving school at 15 in 1972. The year after the school leaving age went
up to 16.
