The sale of Brierley Hall has finally taken place for an unknown figure. At last it was great to see the incongruous red brick extension that Barnsley council added in the early 1960s flattened to the ground. The new owners are Saul Construction, the same directors that own Burntwood Court Hotel. A scheme for the site has not yet been finalised but lets hope they decide to refurbish the old hall back to its original beauty. Fingers crossed.

The council chambers (top) and the boiler house (underneath) are the last to go

The council chambers well on the way

This tugged at a heart string when they pulled out the boilers I had worked with for 11 years being the last caretaker at the hall

This distant photograph shows what is left of the council chambers with the boiler house underneath
