William Steele
John
was the first caretaker of Brierley Church Institute from 1912 until 1936.
This photograph was taken where the present day manager of the village
club have their living quarters now. The billiard table was still in the
Institute when it was sold to the British Legion in 1966

was born in Clayton in 1830. She was the daughter of Abraham Moore who came to
live in the vicinity at Folly Hall, nowadays a boarding kennels lying between
South Hiendley and Brierley beside the former Hull and Barnsley Railway.
She married George Guest, a gardener of South Hiendley and had five
children. The photograph circ.1880 was taken by A&G Taylor, 101, Norfolk
St. Sheffield. "By Special Royal Warrant To HM The Queen."

lived at this time. Their grandparents were the caretakers of the church and
the institute. At the year 2000 exhibition, which was held at the Methodist
Church, I met Ronald and Joan and persuaded them to have their photograph
taken again Out of all the photographs in the Baipip archives, these
have to be my favourites
