Nurse Dorothy Elliot

Nurse Elliot bore a proud record of delivering over 1,000 babies and never losing one. She worked at the Old Beckett Hospital and was a clinic superintendent at Barnsley District General Hospital before her retirement in the early 70s. She also worked as a sister on the maternity ward at St Helens hospital for 25 years

Roland Addy

Roland who was the Managing Director of the Carlton Main Coal Company purchased Brierley Hall in 1916 for £2,800 from Alphonse Wood. He employed many residents of Brierley over the years and on Nationalisation in 1948 he sold the Hall to Hemsworth Rural District Council for £8,750 in 1949 and retired to Oliver’s Mount Scarborough
