Ken Sheard

Ken was brought up on the Hillside estate and attended St Pail’s school Brierley and Willowgarth High school. He left Willowgarth in 1969 and worked for a while at Grimethorpe Colliery before joining the army as a boy soldier. He now lives in Cudworth and is an asbestos clearance officer

Herbert Fischer (Herbie)

Herbie ran a vets practise from premises in the grounds of Lindley House. He was also the first German to become a local magistrate. He was born in Augsburg near Munich in May 1957 and died tragically in November 2002 aged 46

Elizabeth Deighton

Elizabeth Deighton in her home on Park Avenue. She had just been presented with a certificate from the Reverend Inderjit Bhogal, President of the Methodist conference in recognition of her 50 years service as a local preacher. Pam Fewster presented her with a bouquet of flowers. Both gifts were on behalf of her friends at Brierley Methodist church. The event took place at Staincross Methodist Church
