The Old Brierley Colliery tramway
This photograph was taken from the old Brierley Colliery pit
yard where tubs of coal and sleck or red slate travelled to be deposited
where the Forestry Commission planted fir trees and became Peter Wood.
The coal also travelled down here. It went under the Holt at Engine Lane
and onto the washer at Grimethorpe colliery. This roadway was commonly
known as “The Ginny run” by the kids on the Hillside estate who also
called Peter Wood “cowboy land”.
