The
‘Little Aberfan’
A
tip of ashes, which was created in the old pit yard, was growing so high
that residents on the Grange Road estate had dubbed it ‘The Little
Aberfan’. The tip at the time was used by John Hinchcliffe, ltd, and
used for making breezeblocks. It was reported that on windy days,
residents were unable to open windows and doors because of the dust, and
it was just impossible to hang out washing.
The
photograph shows the tip from the backs of Grange Road. The new housing
estate is now being built here (August 2005).
